What does it mean to be Protestant?

Protestantism is a major branch of Christianity that began in the 16th century as a reform movement against the Roman Catholic Church lead my Martin Luther. He emphasized salvation by faith alone, the authority of Scripture, and the priesthood of all believers.

Protestants and Roman Catholics agree on most key Christian Theology items. However, key differences between them include:

• Rejection of Papal Supremacy: Protestants reject the Catholic doctrine that the Pope is the supreme head of the Church, the successor of Peter, or the Vicar of Christ on earth.

• Priesthood of all believers: Every Christian has direct access to God without needing a priestly mediator.

• Rejection of certain Catholic practices: Protestants opposed indulgences, veneratoin of Mary and saints, and confession to priests.

The Core Beliefs of the Protestant Chruch are summerized via the Five Solass.
