Fear of God

The fear of God is the the beginning of wisdom…

A critical foundation of the Christian Life is the “Fear of God.” In today’s modern world, this is a topic that trips up most non-believers. We are taught at a young age that people in authority should not be feared. However, I would argue that that concept is a significant issue with today’s society. People, especially the younger generations, do not fear authority. They do not fear their parents, teachers, or law enforcement.

It is this authority that is in place to keep us safe and alive. Fear also keeps of safe and alive. It is our parents who keep us from playing in the street as a child. The fear of falling off a cliff keeps us from getting too close to the edge of the Grand Cayon. Fear and authority work together to keep us alive and safe. So fear of authority is a good thing.

It was the fear of my earthly father (God rest his soul) that kept me safe and alive during my childhood.

The Fear of God will keep you safe and alive on Earth and in our life after death.

King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, summed up all his wisdom in the following Bible verse.

…Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. (Ecclesiastes 12:13 ESV)

He also stated the following regarding the “fear of God”

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7 ESV)

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. (Proverbs 9:10 ESV)
