The Supernatural
What is the Supernatural?
Webster’s Definition of Supernatural
1 : of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe especially : of or relating to God or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil
2 : departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature : attributed to an invisible agent (such as a ghost or spirit)
You could state that a lot of the Bible does touch on supernatural subjects, such as the devil, angels, and miracles. God himself is supernatural. He is “departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature.” He is the supernatural creator of the universe. He is the creator of the laws of nature, but he does not follow the laws of nature. One of the reasons the Trinity is so difficult to understand is because it is a supernatural concept that does not have a reference in the natural world.
The belief in the supernatural is a hallmark of a Christian. If you do not believe in God, the Trinity, miracles and angels then you are not a Christian. Practically all other religions also have supernatural elements to them as well. However, atheists do not believe in anything supernatural. They believe that everything is controlled by the laws of nature and that there is nothing outside of the laws of nature (i.e., the supernatural.) So, do not let an atheist tell you that they do not have religion or faith. Their religion and faith is in the laws of nature. However, the God of the Bible is the maker of the laws of nature.
So do you put your faith in the laws of nature or the maker of the laws of nature?
